Amazing Submerged Forest Lake Kaindy

It’s an amazing sight in Lake Kaindy, Kazakhstan. Trees poke from the water’s surface like misplaced toothpicks. The water is so cold, not exceeding 6 degrees, that the great pines still remain on the trees, even 100 years later. Because of the clear mountain water, you can see deep into the depths of the lake.

Beside the submerged forest, part of the lake’s draw is its beautiful, almost unnatural bluish-green water, caused by limestone. The lake was created as the result of an enormous limestone landslide, triggered by the 1911 Kebin earthquake. Bucketlist material.
